Squealing over eels
|
Sam Stiegman joined her classmates in crowding around a blue
bucket in a lab at the Arlington Echo Outdoor Education Center.
She peered inside and had second thoughts about what she was
about to do.
"Oh wow," she said. "I don't know if I want to touch that."
"That" was Neil, one of Arlington Echo's resident eels.
"If you're gentle with Neil, Neil is very calm," Arlington Echo
teacher Dan Somers counseled Sam and her Northeast High School
classmates.
Sam nudged classmate Blaine Brooks and watched as he and others
dipped their hands in the chilly water to feel the soft, slimy eel.
