OAKLAND -- Bishop O'Dowd High football coach Paul Perenon gave boys basketball coach Doug Vierra a comforting message Friday night after the Dragons fell to visiting San Leandro 54-50.

Vierra said Perenon told him: At least it isn't like football. You don't have to wait a whole year to play them again.
