Avalanche loses Smyth to broken right ankle

Ryan Smyth still doesn't know how he injured his right ankle, but
the Avalanche learned Thursday the forward will not be playing for
the next two months.
Smyth, 31, was hurt during overtime of a 4-3 shootout loss at
Phoenix on New Year's Eve, but the preliminary diagnosis was a
sprained right ankle.
Further evaluation revealed a fracture that will sideline Smyth
for approximately eight weeks.
