Mixed emotions over motion-wing decoys

VICTORIA & ODELL, Ill. -- We heaved duck decoys into the water in
the predawn, the same as generations of waterfowlers before us. Then,
like supplicants before an idol, we watched as Gary Forlines tucked
his motion-wing duck decoy between the two decoy spreads on a small
water hole for Saturday's teal-season opener.
I go round and round on motion-wing decoys. Part of me thinks they
cross an ethical line; part of me is fascinated. Evidence from early
studies is mixed, too.
