Ten things to do to make our communities better

days of summer, I offer 10 things we could do to make our
neighborhoods safer.
1. Stop letting children play unsupervised.
Forget about letting them ride scooters and bikes, even on the
side streets. Make bike riding a family outing. Unfortunately, I
never learned to ride a bike, so family bike outings were not an
option. As a result, more than one of my children had a bike
snatched. Still, I count myself lucky. They could have been run over
by a drunken driver.
2. Cross at the intersection, especially when pushing a stroller
or holding a child's hand.
