MESA VERDE RECEIVES FIRE RETARDANT CLEANUP

Parts of Mesa Verde National Park are getting a bath to clean up
fire retardant that was dumped on the Long Mesa Fire in July.
Using wet brushes and a mild borax solution, crews are scrubbing
historic sandstone structures and some archaeological sites to rid
them of the red stain.
"It permeates sandstone, which is very porous," said Tessy
Shirakawa, public information officer for the park in southwestern
Colorado.
