If you found yourself making a big pot of soup in the wake of the Sept. 11 tragedy, you weren't alone. For many, comfort food was a solace for troubled times.

Former Boulderite Jennifer Dorland Darling is editor of that most comforting of cookbooks, the big plaid Better Homes and Gardens New Cook Book, just released in its 12th edition. She defines comfort food as "food that makes you feel good, food you had as a child, food that brings back really great memories, nostalgia food."
