In recent years the future of Swansea's St Helen's ground as a first-class cricket venue seems to have been in as much doubt as that of a batsman facing Aussie maestro Shane Warne.

With cash being splashed on upgrading Glamorgan's Sophia Gardens home into a serious international arena, the popular seafront venue with a rich life story to tell would appear to be slipping off the radar.

But, as CHRIS PEREGRINE explains, appearances can be deceptive.
