RICHWOOD - The furniture company was coming to town, and people in this rural valley were ecstatic. It was the first positive economic news in years. Restaurants were closing. The Ford dealership had left. The G.C. Murphy's five-and-dime had closed its doors.

But a furniture factory was opening in the old B.F. Goodrich building with a promise of 200 jobs and sales of upscale Shaker and Mission pieces from coast to coast.
