NEW YORK - The pipe-and-canvas shack at the north end of Times
Square has witnessed more than 30 tumultuous New Year's celebrations,
but New Year's Eve 2005 may have finally been its last.
The TKTS discount theater ticket booth, built as a temporary
structure in 1973, is slated to be replaced in the spring with a
bigger, permanent building, a change that will mark a new phase in
the redevelopment of Times Square, the heart of New York's Theater
District as well as one of the most popular spots to celebrate the
new year.
