Snorkel sold to British firm

ELWOOD, Kan. - From atop an orange scissor lift, Al Havlin told Snorkel International employees that their company had been sold.

Mr. Havlin, the chief executive officer, tried to soothe workers' fears that their jobs were in jeopardy.

"They're not going to do this deal to blow it," he said as workers wearing orange or tan Snorkel T-shirts gathered in the assembly plant in Elwood, Kan.

Snorkel will be purchased by Tanfield Group, an aerial lift maker based in the United Kingdom.
