CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla.--The U.S. shuttle Columbia lifted off on the first all-science mission in four years, with Israel's first astronaut among the seven crew members.

NASA managers began preparing for the trip four years ago. Technical problems postponed the launch date for 21/2 years.
