For some of us, all we really know of Lent is that some of our
friends and co-workers give up eating meat on Fridays or abstain from
shopping until Easter.
But, for those who observe it, Lent is much more than an act of
denying oneself something.
We asked the Rev. Mike Volkmer, pastor of St. Francis Xavier
Catholic Church, to explain the meaning of Lent and the lessons to be
learned from observing the Lenten season.
