Cell phones, iPods and Blackberries replacing pocketknives, handkerchiefs

You wouldn't catch Grandpa Jim without his pocket-knife and
handkerchief. Along with the bib overalls and T-shirt, they were part
of his uniform.
Many times I watched him gap the sparkplugs and set the idle on
his old Dodge pickup and peel an apple with the same knife.
He'd just wipe off the oil-covered knife with the crumpled
handkerchief he carried in his back pocket. Then he'd carve a single
ribbon of apple peel as he ate. A quick swipe of the same
handkerchief across his forehead and he'd be back underneath the
hood.
