The man whose name is closely connected with the end of apartheid
in South Africa is scheduled to speak in Maryville, Mo., tonight.
F.W. de Klerk, president of South Africa from 1989 to 1994, will
speak at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Northwest Missouri State University's
Performing Arts Center.
Frederik Willem de Klerk was born in 1936 in South Africa, where
his father was a senator. He attended law school and became an
attorney. In the 1970s he began his political career as a member of
the South African Parliament.
