Area woman traces family's history to Meriwether Lewis

Unless you've been living under a rock for the some time, you probably know Meriwether Lewis passed through here 200 years ago.

But less well-known is that some of Lewis' relatives later came to live in Buchanan County and remain here today.

Christineann George Long is among them. Growing up in St. Joseph and Easton, Mo., she had always perked up in history class, aware that the famous explorer was a distant relative.

"Pretty much, when I was a young girl I knew we were related to him," she said.
