Coleman Hawkins Society's Mardi Gras Parade returns this Saturday

You wouldn't think the idea of traipsing around downtown St. Joseph in the middle of winter - in costumes, no less - would go over that well.

But maybe it's the sheer lack of common sense that made last year's Mardi Gras Parade, organized by the Coleman Hawkins Jazz Heritage Society, such a success. The celebration drew about 5,000 revelers to Coleman Hawkins Park at Felix Street Square, many of them students from Missouri Western State College or Northwest Missouri State University.
