The Senate yesterday approved a bill that would ease funding
requirements for companies operating traditional pension plans and
grant special relief to firms in the airline and steel industries
whose plans are severely underfunded.
In addition, it would provide relief for multi-employer pension
plans of the sort common in the trucking and construction industries.
