Down in history under the wrong name? The spirited correspondence I triggered off about holy wells is still having a ripple effect. Eileen Egbeare, former mayor and portreeve of Ashburton, has sent me an old book about the town that not only gives more details about the St Gudula eye-healing well I mentioned, but recalls that there used to be another well, not far away, which also had magical properties.
