Moths nibbling historic clothes at stately home

A historic country house near Exeter has been placed on "moth alert."

The common clothes moth is attacking the fabric of 18th century Killerton House, outside Broadclyst, according to the National Trust.

Traps have been laid and visitors are being asked to stay alert and report any moths they see to staff.

"It is like an Aladdin's cave for moths - it is an ongoing battle," said a spokesman for the trust, which has been running the estate since the mid-1940s.

Warmer temperatures are thought to be the cause of the moths breeding three times a year instead of the normal once.
