Bandleader forsook Ph.D. for sounds of Latin jazz

Violin virtuoso and Latin jazz bandleader Susie Hansen doesn't think what she does is unique.

Although she admits it is unusual for a woman to lead a musical ensemble typically reserved for Latino men, she claims, "It's what you listen to and the gift God gives you that make you able to play any kind of music."

Feisty in temperament and fierce in rhythmic delivery, Hansen is a popular performer at California clubs, jazz festivals, private parties and community concerts.
