Jon Lieber knew the pain in his elbow was getting worse Thursday even as he was pitching a solid seven innings against the San Diego Padres.

After he left the game the Cubs were giving away in the eighth and then taking back in the ninth, he went to pitching coach Larry Rothschild and told him it was time to stop pitching and find out if the elbow pain is something more than tendinitis.

Lieber officially went on the disabled list Friday, and another exam by team orthopedic specialist Dr. Michael Schafer in the morning still indicates there is no ligament damage.
