Military base loss "devastating," Mayor says

NORCO - The Naval Surface Warfare Center Corona Division could be moving all of its high-tech equipment and hundreds of high-paying jobs from the Inland Empire to Ventura County, following a Defense Department announcement Friday.

The 1,100-employee military research facility was included in the Pentagon's long list of military bases recommended for closure, relocation or downsizing.

"This is devastating," Norco Mayor Herb Higgins said Friday.
