Riwaka School says it may have to turn away its special needs children next year because it can no longer afford teacher aid.

Principal Christine Sutton said she had the backing of parents and the board of trustees on this after the school was forced to pay out $10,000 this year because funding received from Group Special Education did not cover the cost of teacher aid hours for the five special needs children on the roll.
