TELEVISION'S fascination with the Indian sub-continent continues tonight with two must-watch programmes.

Michael Wood visits the desert cities of Rajasthan and travels among the fabulous Mughal cities of Delhi, Agra and Fatehpur Sikri.

Along the way he tells tales of the rulers of the Mughal Empire that stretched across today's political borders.

Figures such as Akbar the Great, a Muslim king who tried to make India a multi-racial, multi-religious egalitarian state.

But the second programme Unreported World, (Channel 4, 7.35pm) highlights how his dreams turned to dust.
