Daniel Drew, 53; mayor had big dreams for Waukegan Longtime political figure won close election in April

Daniel Drew, a fixture in Waukegan politics who reached a
political pinnacle when he was elected mayor last April, died
Wednesday, apparently after a heart attack.
Mr. Drew, 53, was having trouble breathing when he summoned
paramedics and was in cardiac arrest when they got to his home around
4:20 a.m. Wednesday, said Peggy Link, a spokeswoman for the city.
He was taken to Victory Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced
dead.
"Dan set the standard for others to try to achieve," said Wayne
Motley, Waukegan's city clerk and a friend of Mr. Drew's for 30
years. "He really set the bar higher."
