Kendo date for Queen in Glasgow

THE Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will visit Glasgow on Friday to officially open the World Kendo Championships.

They will attend the first day of the Japanese martial arts spectacular at the Kelvin Hall and meet team captains from Great Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Kendo, a traditional form of fencing, is one of Japan's most popular martial arts and more than 500 competitors from 43 countries will take part in the three-day competition.
