THE biggest British warship contract since the Second World War
was signed in Glasgow today, securing 1200 Clyde jobs.
As expected, the (pounds) 2billion deal means BAE Glasgow yards at
Scotstoun and Govan will be involved in the building of three more
Type 45 destroyers for the Royal Navy, on top of the three orders
already secured.
The doubling of the order is a crucial lifeline in saving
shipbuilding on the Clyde and management say the order will protect a
combined workforce...

; THERE will be no more compulsory job losses on the Clyde, BAE Systems said yesterday. Last year, the firm announced 1000 redundancy at their shipyards at Scotstoun and Govan. Yesterday, they said there were still around 300 jobs at risk, but confirmed there would be no further compulsory job losses.
