BAGWORMS MAY APPEAR EARLIER THAN USUAL

We've been hit with a lot of gardening challenges so far this spring, including freeze injury, tent caterpillars and early weed pressure. The next pest we should be expecting is the bagworm.

Bagworms are caterpillars that live inside spindle-shaped bags, which they construct to protect themselves against birds and other enemies. These bags, composed of silken threads and bits of foliage, look so much like a part of the tree that they may go unnoticed until extensive damage has occurred.

Bagworms usually hatch during the first week of June in the Evansville area. They could be earlier this year ...
