FAREWELL TO DISCO BEULAH

Southern Illinois lost one of its most colorful characters
Thursday when singer/songwriter and poet Beulah Kershaw died at the
Mount Carmel hospital.
She was 93.
Beulah probably hit the top of her musical career in the early
1980s when she was invited to appear on one of TV's earliest reality
shows, NBC's "Real People."
With her husband Bryan on drums, Beulah belted out one of her
biggest hits -- "It Hurts to be Hurt," earning the nickname of "Disco
Beulah."
Television stations from throughout the Midwest lined up to
interview Disco Beulah. She was even a guest aboard the famed Delta
Queen ...
