Naturalist and philosopher Henry David Thoreau once said, "Almost every shrub and tree has its gall." And for the most part, he was correct. Galls are abnormal plant growths caused by various organisms (insects, mites, nematodes, fungi, bacteria and viruses), and nearly all plants get one type of gall or another.
