FELONY CASES UP 15% IN 2005 PROSECUTORS ATTRIBUTE BULK OF INCREASE TO METH-RELATED CRIMES, DEADBEAT PARENTS

Prosecutors filed about 15 percent more felony cases in 2005 in
Vanderburgh County than they did in 2004, an increase that Prosecutor
Stan Levco attributes to more people being charged with meth-related
crimes and more deadbeat parents being prosecuted for nonsupport.
As of Thursday afternoon, when courts closed for the New Year's
holiday, Vanderburgh County prosecutors had filed 2,545 felony cases
in Circuit and Superior courts in 2005. That's up 14.6 percent from
the 2,221 felony cases prosecutors filed in 2004 a though it's up
only 6.8 percent from the 2,383 felony cases they brought in ...
