"Atonement" is one of the few times the movie is better than the book.

Based on a novel by Ian McEwan, the film excels in precisely the places where the book falls short because so much of the story is based on visual depiction. However, though "Atonement" soars artistically, its aesthetic appeal notably surpasses the level of interest its action inspires.
