Fresh Irish eyes: Worldly art from Ireland in SOFA exhibit dispels cliches
|
The phrase "Irish art and craft" conjures up a steaming soup-
kettle of stereotypes: woven woolens, Celtic knots and crosses,
landscape paintings with rural cottages and grazing sheep.
But "Forty Shades of Green," a special exhibit at this weekend's
SOFA Chicago -- the 13th annual exposition of sculpture objects and
functional art at Navy Pier -- suggests that the art of Ireland has
moved well beyond tradition and nostalgia.
