Upgrades at Saint Francis after merger

Throughout the 21 months that Saint Francis Hospital was up for sale, the hospital's out-of-state owners rarely approved new equipment purchases.

That has changed since South Charleston's Thomas Memorial Hospital purchased Saint Francis on Jan. 1.

Saint Francis has added more than $2 million in state-of-the-art equipment over the past three months, hospital officials said at a Wednesday night board meeting.

The hospital has purchased a $1.4 million Computed Tomography scanner that can do brain scans 64 times faster than the downtown Charleston hospital's nine-year-old ...
