State tennis tourney opens today

George Washington will try to maintain its status as tennis kings - and become queens - of The Hill.

Charleston Catholic will try to whack its way back to championship form and two Kanawha Valley freshmen will take aim at the top girls singles titles.

Those are a few of the storylines as the state tennis tournament gets under way this morning at Coonskin Park and the Kanawha City Community Center.

Matches start at 8:30 a.m. all three days. This year, the Class AAA side plays at Coonskin and AA-A at Kanawha City. If the skies show no mercy, the tournament will be chased ...
