Mansion for rent: Governor allows his house to be used for social events

Delegate L. Gil White, R-Ohio, wanted to make his mother's surprise birthday one that she would never forget.

So he paid $350 and rented the Governor's Mansion last weekend.

About 80 birthday party guests dined on tenderloin of beef, salmon and salad Saturday night. They sipped cocktails, drank beer and wine. Dessert was a birthday cake.

"It was a beautiful evening," White recalled Wednesday. "It probably was one of those lifelong memories."

Gov. Joe Manchin and first lady Gayle Manchin are renting their home for a small number of private parties.
