Judge rules against cockfighting industry
|
LAFAYETTE, La. - Cockfighters failed to prove their claim that a
federal law clamping down on the $1 billion cockfighting business
discriminates against Cajuns and Hispanics, a judge ruled Tuesday.
U.S. District Judge Rebecca Doherty also rejected allegations that
the law, which makes it illegal to ship animals out of state for
fighting, violates the rights of people in Louisiana and New Mexico,
the only states where cockfighting is legal.
