Group plans map of state's labor history

West Virginia's labor history will be chronicled in a map for distribution to eighth-grade students, libraries and other educational sites this fall.

The West Virginia Labor History Association is seeking public nominations for the map, which will show the locations and descriptions of 20 to 25 events, said Steve Fesenmaier, an association board member.

Perhaps the map could include the Depression-era Hawks Nest tunnel in Fayette County, where hundreds of workers died in silica-choked passageways; and the 1921 Battle of Blair Mountain, the culmination of a bloody struggle to unionize the ...
