Putnam seeks end to delay of mental hygiene cases

WINFIELD - Putnam County commissioners Tuesday reluctantly agreed
to pay a bill for what the county owes for housing mental hygiene
patients at state facilities.
They voted unanimously after debating whether the bill from the
state Department of Health and Human Resources should actually fall
to them. State law says that they do have to pay for such expenses,
according to county attorney Jennifer Scragg.
She advised them to pay it, but to note their protest.
The 12 cases between August 2003 and July 2004 cost the county
more than $8,000 to house residents at the ...
