Despite a downward trend in the number of freshmen, the total
student population at the University of Missouri-Columbia continues
to rise.
The first full day of semester classes put MU's total enrollment
at 22,395 - 158 more than a year ago.
The number of freshmen was 3,576, down 189 from 1996 and 304 fewer
than in 1995.
The reason for a 5 percent decrease? Officials pointed to
increased admission standards. MU is enjoying its highest ACT score
in history. This year's freshman class ACT average is 25.8, up from
25.4 in 1996 and 25.1 in ...
