Economic plan fires up Mexico Tax credits, incentives could help brick plant reopen.

The signing of an economic development package is welcome news to a Mid-Missouri town pining to reopen one of the region's most dominating structures - the A.P. Green Brick Refractory.

The massive complex in Mexico closed in April 2002 after demand dropped for bricks that line furnaces in the production of steel and cement. It resulted in the loss of hundreds of jobs for the city of roughly 11,320 people.

It also was a psychological blow for a town known as the "firebrick capital of the world."
