New mayor appointed in Centralia Flap over police chief parking cuts old mayor out of office.

A Centralia alderman with a military background was affirmed this week as the town's new mayor, less than two weeks after the former mayor resigned.

Tim Grenke had served as an alderman since 2005. He was appointed as mayor pro tem in April and had been acting mayor since June 1, when Jerry Parmeley resigned during a flap involving the town's police chief.

The Centralia Board of Aldermen on Monday voted 5-0 to appoint Grenke as mayor, City Administrator Lynn Behrns said.

"It means a lot to me," Grenke said of his new appointment. "I've been in leadership roles in the military for a long time."
