LET'S TALK ANTIQUES Maxfield Parrish's work `too pretty to throw away'

My grandmother had some things that she said were "too pretty to
throw away."
One was an old paper box for fancy chocolates. On the lid was a
picture of a scantily clad girl about to dive into a pool. Her
reflection mirrored everything in the top half of the illustration,
perfectly. The colors were amazing, and I remember thinking that is
was the most beautiful picture I had ever seen. Today I know that it
was a Maxfield Parrish illustration.
I first learned about Parrish in art appreciation class in
college. When I saw some of his paintings, I recognized his style and
