Sir Michael issues a housing warning

Homes will continue to be built on the floodplain in Gloucestershire because of the lack of cheap housing.

That was one of the key points raised by the author of the independent report into the flooding emergency when he visited the county yesterday.

Sir Michael Pitt visited Walham power station near Gloucester, which was saved from the floods by emergency barricades.

He later said he wanted to raise the profile of flooding so it is regarded by the Government in the same way as terrorism and a flu pandemic.
