English speakers minority in many schools

NINE out of 10 schools in one London borough have a majority of children who do not speak English as their native language.

Figures show children who are native English speakers are in a minority in hundreds of schools across the country, many of which are in the capital.

The revelation sparked calls for more cash to bring the pupils up to speed in English, amid warnings that the drive to raise standards was suffering.
