Roundup: Tanzanian opposition party cements political base in
Pemba

DAR ES SALAAM, May 20 (Xinhua) -- The Civic United Front (CUF),
Tanzania's main opposition party, has fully demonstrated its
political muscles in Pemba, the north island of Zanzibar by gaining a
landslide victory in the by-elections held last Sunday.
According to the result announced on Monday by the Zanzibar
Electoral Commission (ZEC), the CUF swept all 15 seats of the
Tanzanian National Assembly, the parliament, and 11 others of the
Zanzibar House of Representatives.
