LUSAKA, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Extensive deforestation, land degradation, pollution and loss of biodiversity have become real threats to the Zambezi Basin which is shared by eight countries in central and southern Africa.

Population pressure and mounting economic exploitation of the basin feed fears that the vast area, extending to 1.35 million square km, may become "ecologically ravaged," according to the " State of the Zambezi Basin 2001 Report" compiled by a research pannel affiliated to the Southern African Development ...
