Klaus Barbie Ridicules Accusations ;He Likens Hearing To Nuremberg Trials

Klaus Barbie, the former SS officer charged with crimes against
humanity, ridiculed the long list of accusations against him today,
telling a French court they reminded him of the Nuremberg war crimes
tribunal for Nazi leaders whereas he was just following orders from
the German Army.
Barbie, 73, spoke in German with an old man's soft voice, from
behind a bulletproof shield. But his words, translated immediately
into French by a court interpreter, sounded hard and defiant when he
took up his own defense for the first time at the end of the second
day of his trial here in a French court.
