Rep. John Shimkus Introduces Rare 'Orphan' Diseases Products Bill; Nearly One In Ten Illinoisans Suffer With Rare 'Orphan' Diseases

WASHINGTON, March 27 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The National Organization
for Rare Disorders (NORD) is pleased to announce that Representative
John Shimkus (R-20th Ill.), a long-time advocate of the rare disease
community, introduced the Rare Diseases Act of 2002, H.R. 4013, on
March 20. Rep. Mark Foley (R-16th Fla.) introduced companion
legislation -- The Rare Diseases Orphan Product Development Act, H.R.
4014, that would increase funding for the Orphan Product Research
Grant program at the Food and Drug Administration.
